Burger King Final Paycheck Laws
Published:
If you’re trying to get your final paycheck from Burger King and nobody at the restaurant seems to know how, that’s not unusual. Burger King is almost entirely franchise-operated, which means over 7,000 US locations are owned by hundreds of different franchise companies, each with its own payroll system, its own HR department, and its own level of competence at handling separations. Your state’s final paycheck law still applies. The challenge is figuring out who to contact to enforce it.
Start by figuring out your scenario.
Scenario 1: You Know Which Franchise Owns Your Restaurant
If you know your franchise company, you’re ahead of most BK employees. Here’s where your final pay lives based on the major franchise operators:
Carrols Restaurant Group (the largest BK franchisee, though undergoing restructuring): Your pay information is at carrols.com/Home/Employee, which runs through ADP. For payroll questions, email payroll@carrols.com or call +1-315-479-5548. W-2s and final pay stubs are under Tax Statements.
GPS Hospitality: Uses UltiPro/InfoSync. Contact your district manager or the GPS HR line for payroll access.
EYM Group: Runs on Kronos. Contact your restaurant’s general manager for payroll routing.
Sage ESS (corporate and some franchise): Access at ess.burgerk.com/ess/ or through the BK-ESS app on iOS. Pay stubs are available here if your location uses this system.
BKC Corporate stores (the ~400+ company-owned locations): Use paystubportal.com/bkc with your Employee ID and PIN.
If none of these match your situation, your franchise may use Paylocity, Paycom, Adams Keegan Efficenter, AllianceHCM, or Money Network. Ask a current coworker or your former general manager which payroll system your restaurant uses.
Scenario 2: You Don’t Know Your Franchise Company
This is the most common situation, and it’s the biggest pain point in BK’s entire employee experience. Many crew members work for years without knowing who actually employs them.
Here’s how to find out:
- Check your old pay stubs. The franchise company’s name usually appears at the top. If you used direct deposit and never saved a stub, check your bank statements for the depositing entity’s name.
- Look at your W-2 from last year. Box (c) shows your employer’s name and address. That’s your franchise.
- Call the restaurant. Ask the general manager which franchise company owns the location and who handles payroll.
- Call BK corporate support at 1-866-394-2493. They can sometimes identify which franchise operates a specific location, though they’ll likely redirect you back to the franchise for payroll issues.
Scenario 3: Your Franchise Isn’t Responding
This is where it gets frustrating. Smaller BK franchise operators sometimes don’t have dedicated HR departments. The GM handles everything, and if the GM isn’t responsive, you’re stuck.
Don’t give up. Your state’s final paycheck law applies to every employer regardless of size. Here’s the escalation path:
Try the franchise payroll system directly. If you know it’s ADP, go to my.adp.com. Paylocity has its own portal. Money Network cards may hold your final pay if your franchise used that system.
Contact BK corporate again at 1-866-394-2493. Explain that you cannot reach your franchise employer about a final paycheck. Corporate doesn’t process franchise payroll, but they can apply pressure to the franchise operator.
File a wage claim. This is your strongest move. Every state’s Department of Labor handles wage complaints, and the process doesn’t require a lawyer. You’ll need your employment dates, last working date, and the franchise company’s name (even an approximate one from your pay stub helps). Your state will track down the right entity.
State Deadlines Apply to Every Franchise
No matter which franchise owns your BK, the same state rules apply:
Situation | CA | TX | FL | NY | Most States |
Fired | Same day | 6 days | Next payday | Next payday | Next payday |
Quit (with notice) | Last day (72 hrs notice) | Next payday | Next payday | Next payday | Next payday |
Quit (no notice) | 72 hours | Next payday | Next payday | Next payday | Next payday |
Pay frequency varies by franchise. Some pay weekly, others biweekly. “Next payday” depends on which schedule your franchise uses.
Does Burger King Pay Out PTO?
This varies entirely by franchise. Large franchise groups like Carrols and GPS Hospitality offer basic PTO packages. Smaller independent franchisees might offer nothing. State law still controls whether accrued vacation must be paid out, but if your franchise didn’t offer PTO at all, there may be nothing to pay.
Free or discounted shift meals don’t factor into your final paycheck. They end when your employment ends.

The Carrols Restructuring Factor
Carrols Restaurant Group, BK’s largest US franchisee, has been undergoing financial restructuring. If your restaurant was owned by Carrols and has changed hands, payroll responsibility may have transferred to a new franchise operator. Your final paycheck should still be issued by whichever entity employed you on your last working day, but getting clarity on who that is may require extra calls.

Filing a Wage Claim
If your franchise hasn’t paid you and won’t respond:
- Gather whatever you have: old pay stubs, W-2s, bank deposit records, the restaurant’s address, and any communications with the GM.
- File online through your state’s Department of Labor. The process is free.
- The state will contact the franchise operator on your behalf. Most franchisees pay quickly once a formal claim is filed.
