Aldi Final Paycheck Laws

Published:

Aldi runs a tight operation compared to most grocery chains. Leaner stores, fewer employees per shift, higher pay. But that efficiency-first culture leads to some myths about what happens when you leave, especially around your final paycheck. Let’s clear them up.

Myth #1: Aldi Can Hold Your Final Check Until You Return Your Uniform

Wrong. No employer in any US state can legally withhold your final paycheck because you haven’t returned company property. Your wages are earned compensation, and they’re owed to you on the timeline your state sets. Aldi may ask you to return your uniform, but they can’t tie your paycheck to it.

The timeline itself depends on two things: your state, and whether you quit or were terminated.

Terminated employees get paid faster in states like California (same day), Colorado (immediately), Massachusetts (same day), and Montana (immediately or within 4 hours of written demand). In most other states, the deadline is the next regular payday.

Employees who quit generally wait until the next regular payday. The exception is California, where giving 72+ hours of notice means Aldi owes you on your last day. Without notice, Aldi has 72 hours.

Myth #2: Aldi Doesn’t Pay Out Unused Vacation Because They Don’t Offer a Discount

These two things have nothing to do with each other. Yes, Aldi has no product discount for employees, compensating instead with higher wages ($15-19+/hr for store staff, $100K+ for managers). But vacation payout is a separate question governed by state law.

Aldi’s vacation schedule: store staff get 5 days in their first two years, then 10 days after year two. Management gets 10 days, then 15 days. Aldi also provides 7 paid holidays and closes stores on those days.

In states that require vacation payout (California, Colorado, Illinois, Montana, Massachusetts, Nebraska, and others), Aldi must include your unused accrued vacation in your final check. In states without that requirement, Aldi follows its internal policy. Because Aldi is notoriously private about internal policies, getting a straight answer sometimes requires calling HR directly.

More details on accrual rates are in the Aldi PTO policies guide.

Myth #3: You Can Check Your Final Pay on MyALDI or Perks at Work

Perks at Work (perksatwork.com) is Aldi’s discount platform for things like travel and electronics. It has nothing to do with payroll. Your final paycheck information lives in MyHR, which runs on UKG (formerly UltiPro).

Current employees access MyHR through MyALDI USA (myaldi.com) using the same credentials as the ACE system. Former employees often lose access quickly after separation.

If you’re locked out:

  • Try logging into MyHR/UKG directly if you still have credentials.
  • Remember that Aldi’s default first-time password is “Ald1-start” but this won’t help if your account has been deactivated.
  • Call Aldi HR. The company doesn’t publish a central HR number the way Walmart or Target does, so contact your store or district manager for the right number.

Myth #4: Aldi’s German Ownership Means Different Labor Laws Apply

Aldi is owned by Aldi Sud (based in Germany), but every US Aldi store follows US federal and state labor law. German employment regulations have zero bearing on your final paycheck. The same state-by-state rules that apply to Walmart or Kroger apply to Aldi.

Your Final Paycheck Checklist

Use this before and after your last day at Aldi:

Before your last day:

  • Log into MyHR and note your current PTO balance
  • Confirm your direct deposit information is correct
  • Download or screenshot your last 3 pay stubs for comparison
  • Verify your mailing address in the system (for paper checks and W-2s)
  • Ask your store manager how your separation will be classified (voluntary vs. involuntary)

After your last day:

  • Look up your state’s final paycheck deadline (fired vs. quit)
  • Mark the deadline date on your calendar
  • Check your bank account on the expected payday
  • If no deposit appears, call your store or district manager within 2 business days
  • Compare your final stub to previous ones and flag any unexpected deductions
  • If the deadline passes without payment, file a wage claim with your state labor department

What Happens to Your 401(k) and Benefits?

Aldi’s 401(k) match is generous: 100% match on the first 5% of pay, with immediate eligibility. That matched money is yours after separation. You can leave it in the plan, roll it over, or cash out (with penalties if under 59½).

Health insurance through Aldi uses a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) with company contributions, which ends upon separation. COBRA may be available depending on your plan structure.
