Kroger fiscal calendar

If the Kroger fiscal year confuses you, you are not alone

If you have ever looked at a Kroger earnings report and wondered why “FY2026” does not match the calendar dates you expected, the problem is not you. Kroger uses a retail fiscal calendar that runs from early February through late January, and it trips up employees, investors, and even some managers who should know better. Add in the fact that Kroger pays hourly workers weekly (not biweekly like most competitors), and there is plenty of room for payroll confusion.

This page sorts through it all: the Kroger fiscal calendar dates, how the weekly pay schedule works, and the deadlines that actually affect your paycheck and benefits.

Quick reference: Kroger FY2026

  • Fiscal year start: February 2, 2026
  • Fiscal year end: January 30, 2027
  • Calendar type: 4-5-4 retail calendar (52 weeks)
  • Pay frequency: Weekly (hourly), monthly (salaried management)
  • Payday: Every Friday for hourly associates
  • Number of paychecks (hourly): 52 per year
  • W-2 tax year: January 1 – December 31 (standard calendar year)

What is Kroger’s fiscal year, and why is it different?

Kroger’s fiscal year ends on the Saturday closest to January 31. For FY2026, that means the year runs from February 2, 2026 through January 30, 2027. This is a standard 52-week year.

Like most grocery and retail chains, Kroger follows a 4-5-4 fiscal calendar. Each quarter contains 13 weeks broken into three periods (4 weeks, 5 weeks, 4 weeks). This structure lets Kroger compare the same shopping weeks year over year, which is more accurate than comparing calendar months that vary in length.

Every 5 to 6 years, Kroger adds a 53rd week to realign the fiscal calendar with the actual calendar. That extra week can shift some year-end calculations, but for most hourly employees, it is barely noticeable.

The fiscal year matters most for store management. Sales targets, labor budgets, and performance evaluations all tie to fiscal quarters and fiscal periods. If your store manager talks about “Period 9” or “Week 37,” they are referencing the fiscal calendar, not the regular calendar.

How Kroger’s weekly pay schedule works

Here is where Kroger is different from most large retailers. While Walmart, Target, and Home Depot all pay biweekly, Kroger pays hourly associates every week. Paychecks land on Friday, covering the prior week’s hours.

That means you receive 52 paychecks per year at Kroger, compared to 26 at Walmart or Target. Weekly pay can make budgeting easier because you do not have to stretch a paycheck across two full weeks. But each individual check is smaller, which sometimes catches new hires off guard.

Salaried management at Kroger is paid on a monthly cycle instead. If you are moving from an hourly role into a salaried management position, the jump from weekly to monthly pay requires some budget planning.

Where to check your pay: Log into MyInfo at myinfo.kroger.com to view pay stubs, tax forms, and direct deposit settings. You will need your EUID (Enterprise User ID) and current password. If you are locked out, note that Kroger passwords expire every 90 days, one of the more annoying quirks of the system. The Kroger login portals guide walks through the fix.

Kroger also partners with DailyPay, so you can access earned wages before Friday if you need them early. There is a small fee for instant transfers.

Common problems with the Kroger fiscal calendar

Problem: “My schedule says Week 12, but it’s April.” Fiscal weeks do not match calendar weeks. Kroger’s Week 1 starts in early February, so by April you are already in Week 9 or 10 of the fiscal year. Managers use fiscal week numbers for scheduling and planning, while most employees think in calendar dates. If your manager references a fiscal week, ask them to confirm the actual dates.

Problem: “My bonus calculation does not match the year I expected.” Bonuses for salaried associates and management are calculated against fiscal year performance, not calendar year. If your review covers FY2026, it runs from February 2026 through January 2027. Your bonus check will arrive after the fiscal year closes, not at the calendar year-end in December.

Problem: “I left in January but my W-2 seems off.” W-2 forms follow the standard calendar year (Jan-Dec), not Kroger’s fiscal year. If you left Kroger in January 2027, your final wages still appear on your 2027 W-2 even though they fall in Kroger’s FY2026 fiscal year. Find W-2 access steps on the Kroger W-2 page or the former employee W-2 page.

Problem: “The June 2025 clock-in policy change messed up my timecard.” Kroger rolled out a policy in June 2025 that prevents timecard error corrections unless the associate is clocked in. If you had timecard issues during a fiscal period close, the correction may not show up until the next period. Contact your store’s HR department or call 1-800-952-8889 for help.

Key employee deadlines on Kroger’s fiscal calendar

Open enrollment (fall): Benefits elections for the following fiscal year happen in the fall. Because Kroger’s benefits vary by union contract, division, and state, your specific enrollment window might differ from your coworker at a different banner. Check MyLife at Kroger for your dates. Details about all available plans are on the Kroger employee benefits page.

PTO accrual and resets: PTO at Kroger varies wildly depending on whether you are union or non-union, full-time or part-time, and which division you work in. Some union contracts provide 20 to 30 days of combined PTO for long-term associates. Check your specific CBA or the Kroger PTO policies page for general guidance.

Annual reviews and raises: Performance evaluations follow the fiscal year. Merit raises for non-union associates typically process after the fiscal year-end. Union associates follow the step-increase schedule in their collective bargaining agreement, which is tied to hours worked and tenure, not the fiscal calendar.

W-2 delivery: W-2s arrive by January 31 based on the tax calendar year. Current employees access them through MyInfo. Former employees have limited portal access and may need to contact HR directly at 1-800-952-8889.

Fiscal calendar vs. tax calendar at Kroger

Your benefits enrollment, store sales goals, and performance reviews all run on the fiscal calendar (Feb-Jan). Your W-2, tax withholdings, 401(k) contribution limits, and IRS filing deadlines all follow the standard tax calendar (Jan-Dec). These two calendars overlap in January, which is why that month can feel hectic from a paperwork perspective.

If you are planning to leave Kroger, timing your departure around these calendars matters. Quitting before the fiscal year-end could affect your bonus payout. Quitting in January instead of February could simplify your W-2 situation. The Kroger quitting process page covers what to think about before you give notice.
