Kohl’s Final Paycheck Laws
Published:
Kohl’s occupies an unusual space in retail right now, somewhere between a traditional department store and an off-price destination, with Amazon returns at every location and Sephora shops inside 600+ stores. That identity shift doesn’t change your final paycheck rights, but Kohl’s mid-market positioning does mean their HR systems are less complex than, say, Kroger’s union-divided structure and more straightforward than a franchise operation. One portal, one payroll system, one set of rules governed by your state.
When is my Kohl’s final paycheck due?
State law controls the deadline. Kohl’s pays biweekly, so “next payday” means up to 14 days from your separation.
Fired or laid off:
Do this: Check whether your state requires same-day payment. California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Missouri, and Montana all require immediate or same-day final pay for terminated employees. Wisconsin (where Kohl’s is headquartered in Menomonee Falls) defaults to the next regular payday.
Don’t do this: Don’t assume your manager handled the paperwork correctly just because they said they did. Verify in the portal.
Quit voluntarily:
Most states: next regular payday. California with 72+ hours’ notice: last working day. California without notice: within 72 hours.
How do I check my final pay on MyHR?
MyHR (myhr.kohls.com) is Kohl’s main employee portal. You’ll need your 7-digit Associate Code to log in.
Do this: While you still have access, go to Self Service > Payroll > View W-2 (for tax documents) and check your pay statements. Screenshot or download your last 3 stubs and note your PTO balance.
You can also reach Kohl’s employee systems through kohls.com by scrolling to the bottom and clicking Associate Services.
Don’t do this: Don’t wait until after separation to try accessing your pay info. MyHR access can be unpredictable after you leave.
Former employees: MyHR has a specific path for you. Go to myhr.kohls.com and look for the blue tile labeled “Former Associate Login and W-2 Instructions.” Follow those steps. Some former associates also report success through H&R Block’s W-2 import tool.
If the former associate login doesn’t work (a common complaint), call Kohl’s HR at 844-564-5747 or the corporate line at 262-703-7000.
Does Kohl’s pay out unused PTO?
Do this: Look up your state’s law first. In states that require vacation payout (California, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, and others), Kohl’s must include your unused accrued vacation in your final check.
Don’t do this: Don’t confuse Kohl’s Cash with PTO payout. Your accumulated Kohl’s Cash (from the loyalty program) expires on its posted date and has nothing to do with your employment benefits.
Kohl’s PTO accrual varies by tenure and full-time/part-time status. In states without mandatory payout, Kohl’s internal policy generally pays out accrued vacation, but confirm with HR if you’re uncertain.

Can I still use my employee discount before I leave?
Do this: Use your 15% Kohl’s employee discount before your last day. It stacks with Kohl’s Cash and store coupons, making the effective discount 30% or more. That stacking is what makes Kohl’s discount punch above its stated percentage.
Don’t do this: Don’t expect the discount to work after your last shift. It deactivates on separation.
What if Kohl’s hasn’t paid me by the deadline?
Do this: Work through these steps in order.
- Check MyHR (former associate login) for the pay stub. Confirm whether the payment was processed.
- Call 844-564-5747 and ask for payroll. Have your Associate Code, store number, and last working date. Ask whether the check was deposited or mailed.
- If mailed and you’ve moved, provide your updated address and ask for reissue.
- File a state wage claim if the payment is overdue and HR can’t give you a resolution date. Wisconsin’s Department of Workforce Development handles claims for the headquarters area, but file in whichever state you worked in.
Don’t do this: Don’t give up after one phone call. Kohl’s HR lines can be slow, and the former associate login is notoriously unreliable. Persistence pays.

Can Kohl’s deduct things from my final check?
Do this: Compare your final pay stub line by line against a previous one. Kohl’s cannot deduct for lost merchandise, register shortages, or damaged goods without a specific, standalone written authorization from you.
Don’t do this: Don’t sign any separation document that includes a blanket deduction authorization without reading it closely. Your right to your earned wages is separate from any company property dispute.
What about seasonal employees?
Kohl’s hires thousands of seasonal workers for Q4. If your seasonal assignment ended without conversion to a regular role, that’s an involuntary separation. The termination deadlines apply, not the quit deadlines.
Do this: Ask HR how your separation was coded. “End of seasonal assignment” should be classified as involuntary, which gives you faster deadlines in several states and protects your unemployment eligibility.
For post-separation benefits and COBRA, see Kohl’s benefits after termination. The Kohl’s quitting process guide covers voluntary departures step by step.
