With 150 store closures underway through January 2027, Macy’s employees have more reasons than ever to contact HR. But a lot of the information floating around online is outdated or flat-out wrong. This guide breaks down the most common myths about reaching Macy’s HR and replaces them with what actually works.
Myth 1: “Employee Connection is the HR portal”
Reality: Employee Connection at employeeconnection.net is a gateway, not the portal itself. It routes you to My Insite at hr.macys.net/insite/, which is the actual HR portal where you manage pay, schedules, benefits, and tax documents. Typing employeeconnection.net works as an entry point, but bookmarking My Insite directly saves you a step.
My Insite covers both Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s employees. If you work at either brand, this is your portal. Your login uses your Employee ID and network password.
To access your schedule, look for MyDay within My Insite. To access your W-2, go to Resources > W2 Online. Both are common points of confusion because they are buried in submenus rather than displayed on the main dashboard.
Myth 2: “There’s one HR number for everything”
Reality: Macy’s uses different numbers for different issues, and calling the wrong one wastes your time.
- Credit Customer Service: 1-877-493-9207. This handles Macy’s credit card issues, not employment questions. Employees call this by mistake constantly because it is the most visible Macy’s phone number online.
- Store-level HR. Your store’s HR coordinator is your first point of contact for scheduling, time-off requests, and day-to-day workplace questions. Ask at the service desk or check My Insite for your store’s HR contact information.
- Benefits support. Accessed through My Insite or by calling the benefits number listed in the portal. Open enrollment questions, COBRA, and coverage changes go here.
- Associate Relations. For escalated complaints, harassment, discrimination, or ethics concerns. Reached through My Insite’s case submission system or by asking your store HR to connect you with the district team.
There is no single 1-800 number that handles all Macy’s HR issues the way Walmart or Target operates. The correct path depends on your specific situation.
Myth 3: “Former employees can still use My Insite”
Reality: My Insite access is deactivated after separation. Former Macy’s employees use TheWorkNumber.com for W-2 retrieval and employment verification. This is a third-party service, and setting it up requires your Social Security number and Employee ID.
If you need your Macy’s W-2, follow these steps:
- Go to TheWorkNumber.com
- Select “Employee” and then “W-2 Request”
- Enter your Social Security number and former Employee ID
- Verify your identity through the security prompts
- Download or request a mailed copy of your W-2
Paper W-2s are also mailed to your last address by January 31. If your address was wrong when you left, TheWorkNumber is your best path since updating a mailing address after separation is difficult.
This is the number one complaint from former Macy’s employees. The portal gets cut off, the W-2 process is not clearly explained during separation, and people discover TheWorkNumber only after weeks of frustration.
Myth 4: “Seasonal workers get the same HR access as everyone else”
Reality: Seasonal employees at Macy’s often have limited access to HR resources and may find their positions ended without formal notice. This is a well-documented pain point.
If you were hired as a seasonal associate, your position was always temporary. When the season ends, many locations simply stop scheduling seasonal workers rather than issuing a formal termination. That means you might not receive standard separation paperwork, which makes accessing your final pay stubs and W-2 harder.
Steps for seasonal workers after your hours drop to zero:
- Check My Insite to confirm whether you are still listed as active or if your status has changed
- Download your pay stubs and any tax documents while you still have portal access
- If access has been cut, go directly to TheWorkNumber.com for your W-2
- Contact your store’s HR coordinator to confirm your employment status and ask about rehire eligibility
Seasonal workers who want to stay on should make their interest known to their manager before the season ends. Rehire for the next season is common, but it is not automatic.
Myth 5: “Password resets go through IT”
Reality: Macy’s runs a self-service password manager at pwr.macys.net. You need your Employee ID and the last 4 digits of your Social Security number. No phone call required.
If the self-service tool does not work (and “MyDay won’t load” is one of the most common Macy’s employee complaints), try clearing your browser cache and cookies first. My Insite is sensitive to cached credentials from previous sessions.
If you are truly locked out, your store’s HR coordinator can submit a password reset request on your behalf.
Myth 6: “Payactiv is a Macy’s program”
Reality: Payactiv is a third-party earned wage access service that Macy’s partners with. It lets you access up to 50% of your earned wages before payday. It is not run by Macy’s HR, and issues with Payactiv need to go through Payactiv’s own support team, not through My Insite.
That said, if there is a discrepancy between what Payactiv shows and what your official Macy’s pay stub reflects, that is an HR issue. Check your pay statement in My Insite first, and if the numbers do not match, contact your store’s HR coordinator or call the payroll support number listed in the portal.
Myth 7: “The store closures don’t affect my benefits”
Reality: If your store is among the 150 locations closing through January 2027 (66 in 2025, 14 in 2026, more to follow), your employment status and benefits will be directly affected. Macy’s calls this the “Bold New Chapter” plan.
Steps if your store is on the closure list:
- Ask your store manager about the timeline and whether transfer opportunities exist
- Download all pay stubs and tax documents from My Insite while you still have access
- If no transfer is available, your separation is treated as an involuntary layoff
- File for unemployment promptly, as store closures qualify in most states
- Contact benefits support through My Insite about COBRA options before your access is cut
- After separation, use TheWorkNumber.com for W-2 and employment verification
Our guide to benefits after leaving Macy’s covers COBRA timelines and 401(k) rollover details. The final paycheck guide explains state-specific rules on when your last check arrives.
Getting help when the portal fails
MyDay not loading, My Insite throwing errors, and Employee Connection timing out are all common complaints. Before calling anyone:
- Clear your browser cache and cookies
- Try a different browser (My Insite works best in Chrome)
- Use an incognito/private window
- If on mobile, try the desktop version of the site
- Check whether your password needs updating at pwr.macys.net
If none of that works, contact your store’s HR coordinator during your next shift. For login portal issues specifically, that dedicated guide has more detail.
Macy’s employee hub covers additional topics including PTO policies and the employee discount (which requires a Macy’s credit or prepaid card to use).
