Kohl’s Quitting Process

Kohl’s Quitting Process: Every Question Answered
You resign from Kohl’s by telling your store manager, giving written notice, and returning your badge. The whole thing takes less than 10 minutes once you have made the decision. Everything else on this page covers the details that affect your paycheck, your benefits, and your ability to come back.
How Do I Resign From Kohl’s?
Go to your Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager and tell them you are leaving. There is no self-service resignation form on MyHR Kohl’s (myhr.kohls.com). Your manager processes it using your 7-digit Associate Code.
Hand them a note or email with your intended last day. Keep a copy. Two weeks’ notice is expected but not legally required. Kohl’s is an at-will employer in every state.
Do ask what separation code they are entering. “Voluntary with notice” keeps your rehire options open. “Voluntary without notice” or “job abandonment” hurts them.
Don’t assume your manager will enter the code correctly without you asking. Retail managers process a lot of turnover, and mistakes happen. A quick “can you confirm you put me down as resigned with notice?” takes 30 seconds and protects your file.
What Happens to My 15% Employee Discount?
Your 15% Kohl’s employee discount ends when your employment ends in the system. That means no more stacking the 15% with Kohl’s Cash and customer coupons (a combination that routinely gets employees 30% or more off).
Do use your discount before your last day if you have been putting off any purchases. The stacking ability is what makes Kohl’s discount one of the more powerful ones in department store retail, even though the base percentage is lower than Macy’s 20%.
Don’t use the discount after your employment ends. Even if the system has not caught up, post-separation discount use is tracked and flagged.
Your spouse’s discount access ends at the same time. Corporate rates through the associate portal also stop.

Does Kohl’s Pay Out PTO When You Quit?
State law determines this.
In mandatory payout states (California, Colorado, Illinois, Montana, Nebraska, and others), Kohl’s must include your accrued, unused PTO in your final check regardless of how you left.
In states without a mandatory payout law, Kohl’s follows its internal policy. Associates who resign with proper notice are more likely to receive a payout. Those who quit without notice may not.
Do check your PTO balance on MyHR (myhr.kohls.com) before giving notice. Log in with your 7-digit Associate Code and check under Self Service > Time Off.
Don’t assume you have no PTO. Some associates forget they have accrued time because they rarely took days off. Even a small balance is money you are owed in payout states.
Details at Kohl’s PTO policies.
When Will I Get My Final Paycheck?
Kohl’s pays biweekly. Your last check comes on the next regular payday after your final shift. Direct deposit continues for the final payment if it was set up.

What Happens to My Benefits?
Health insurance: Ends the last day of the month you quit. COBRA notice arrives by mail. You have 60 days to elect COBRA after receiving the notice.
401(k): Your vested balance stays in the plan. Roll it to a new employer or an IRA when ready. See what happens to your 401k when you quit.
Sephora at Kohl’s: If you work in the Sephora shop-in-shop (now in 600+ Kohl’s locations), your resignation goes through Kohl’s, not Sephora. Your Kohl’s benefits end, and any Sephora-specific training certifications are documented through the Kohl’s system. Ask your manager for copies if you want records for your resume.

Can I Get Rehired at Kohl’s?
Yes, with the usual conditions:
- Resigned with notice: Eligible to reapply right away at most locations.
- Resigned without notice: Typically a 30 to 90-day waiting period.
- Terminated for attendance or performance: 6 months in most cases.
- Terminated for theft: Permanent bar.
Do remember that Kohl’s is in an identity transition. The company is part department store, part off-price, and part Amazon returns hub. The role you come back to may not look the same as the one you left.
Don’t assume every location is hiring. Kohl’s has roughly 1,100 stores, and hiring needs vary widely by region and season.
How Do I Get My W-2 After Leaving?
Do visit MyHR (myhr.kohls.com) after separation. Former employees can access W-2s through the blue tile labeled “Former Associate Login and W-2 Instructions” on the login page. You will need your Associate Code to access it.
Don’t panic if the login does not work on your first try. Former associate login issues are common. Try the password reset option, or contact Kohl’s HR at 844-564-5747 for help.
Your W-2 is also mailed to the address on file by January 31. Update your address on MyHR before your last day if you are moving. H&R Block also has a partnership with Kohl’s that may offer another access path for tax documents.

The Amazon Returns Factor
This is a unique Kohl’s situation. Every Kohl’s store now accepts Amazon returns, and this drives significant foot traffic. If you work the Amazon returns desk, you may have been trained on the return processing system, which is separate from the regular Kohl’s POS.
None of this affects your resignation process, but it is worth noting that the Amazon partnership has made some Kohl’s positions (especially front-end roles) more in-demand than they used to be. If you are leaving a front-end or customer service role and think you might want to come back, a clean resignation with notice keeps that option open.
Before Your Last Day
Do:
- Download pay stubs from MyHR (Self Service > Payroll).
- Check PTO balance and state payout rules.
- Update your mailing address.
- Use your 15% discount (+ stack with Kohl’s Cash) on anything you need.
- Return badge and any company-issued items.
- Save HR’s number: 844-564-5747 or corporate at 262-703-7000. Full guide at Kohl’s HR contact.
Don’t:
- Forget to confirm your separation code with your manager.
- Use your discount after your last day.
- Assume your MyHR access will last. Download what you need before separation.
- Throw away your Associate Code. You will need it for the former associate W-2 portal.
Kohl’s keeps the resignation process simple. The real work is in the prep: getting your records, understanding your PTO payout rights, and making sure the separation code is correct. Ten minutes of admin before your last shift saves hours of phone calls later.
