PetSmart employees tend to stick around longer than the typical retail worker. The free monthly dog washes, the 50% off proprietary food brands, the puppy training classes. But when you do leave, the transition from “employee with perks” to “former employee chasing a paycheck” can feel abrupt. Unlike companies with multiple confusing portals, PetSmart funnels almost everything through ADP, which makes tracking your final pay more straightforward than at most retailers. The challenge is knowing what to expect and when.
Current Employee or Former? Your Path Splits Here
Path A: You Haven’t Left Yet
You have time to prepare. Use it.
This week: Log into HR Connect (hrconnect.petsmart.com) with your User ID and password. Check your PTO balance and take a screenshot. Confirm your direct deposit details and mailing address.
Before your last shift: Register on ADP (my.adp.com) if you haven’t already. The PetSmart registration code is petm-pets. This is the single most important thing you can do, because ADP is where your final pay stub will live after separation. If you register now, you’ll have seamless access later.
On your last day: Verify your final timecard with your manager. If you worked any shifts that weren’t clocked correctly (grooming appointments that ran late, training sessions that weren’t logged), get them fixed before your employment record closes.
Path B: You’ve Already Left
Can you log into ADP? Go to my.adp.com and try your credentials. If you registered while employed, your account should still be active. Check Pay > Pay Statements for your final stub and Pay > Tax Statements for W-2 access.
Never registered on ADP? You’ll need the registration code petm-pets and your personal information to create an account. If registration fails (sometimes it does after separation), call ADP support or PetSmart HR at 1-866-263-8411 (or email hrsharedservices@petsmart.com).
Locked out of HR Connect? Don’t worry about it. HR Connect access typically ends after separation, but your pay data lives in ADP, not HR Connect. Skip HR Connect and focus on ADP.
Timeline: From Your Last Day to Final Payment
Day 0 (your last shift): Same-day states kick in if you were fired. California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Missouri, and Montana require PetSmart to pay you on your last working day when the separation is involuntary. If you’re in one of these states and didn’t receive payment, you have grounds for a claim starting Day 1.
Days 1-3: California no-notice quits: your 72-hour window closes here. Check your bank account for direct deposit. If PetSmart switched to a paper check, it won’t arrive this fast.
Days 4-14 (next payday window): Most states. PetSmart pays biweekly. Your final check should process on the next scheduled payday. Log into ADP and check whether the stub has been posted.
Day 15+: Past the next payday and still nothing? Time to escalate.
Call 1-866-263-8411 or email hrsharedservices@petsmart.com. Have your employee ID, store number, and separation date ready. Ask specifically whether the final paycheck was processed, and if so, whether it went to direct deposit or was mailed.
If PetSmart can’t resolve it within a few business days, file a wage claim with your state’s Department of Labor. Our final paycheck laws by state guide has filing links and penalty details.
PTO Payout at PetSmart
PetSmart’s PTO schedule is clear:
- Years 0-4: 80 hours (2 weeks)
- Years 5-9: 120 hours (3 weeks)
- Years 10+: 160 hours (4 weeks)
- 16 discretionary hours per year on top of that
PetSmart also accrues sick time at 4 hours per month, rolling over up to 120 hours max.
Vacation and discretionary time are use-it-or-lose-it at year end, but at separation, mandatory payout states (California, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, and others) require PetSmart to include accrued unused vacation in your final check. Sick time generally does not pay out.
In states without payout mandates, PetSmart follows its internal policy. Check your final ADP stub to see whether a PTO payout line item appears.

Deductions to Watch
PetSmart cannot deduct for damaged grooming equipment, lost inventory, or pet-related incidents without your specific written consent. Standard deductions (taxes, 401(k) at 50 cents per dollar up to 6%, health premiums) appear as usual.
If your final check looks short, compare it against a previous stub from ADP. Any new line item that wasn’t on prior checks deserves a call to HR.
Your Perks End on Your Last Day
Your 15% product discount, 50% off proprietary brands (Authority, Simply Nourish, Only Natural Pet), and free monthly pet services (dog wash, teeth cleaning, nail grinding) all stop at separation. The free 6-week puppy training class can’t be started after your last day either.
PerkSpot discounts (cell phones, travel, entertainment) and any discounted pet insurance also end. If you have a pet insurance policy through PetSmart, contact the provider directly about continuing coverage at the regular rate.
