Macy’s is closing 150 stores by January 2027 as part of its “Bold New Chapter” restructuring. That’s 66 closures in 2025 and 14 more in 2026, with thousands of employees affected. If your store is on the list, or if you’ve already been separated, your final paycheck has a legal deadline that Macy’s must meet regardless of what’s happening at the corporate level.
Your Final Paycheck Calendar
Mark these dates based on when you left and where you work.
Termination or Store Closure
Your last day was your separation date. Count forward from there:
Same day (Day 0): California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana. If your Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, or Bluemercury location is in one of these states and you were terminated or your store closed, Macy’s should have handed you a check or processed a same-day deposit on your final day.
Within 6 days: Texas.
Next payday (up to 14 days): New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Illinois, Ohio, Connecticut, and most other states. Macy’s pays biweekly, so count to the next scheduled payday from your separation date.
Voluntary Resignation
California (72+ hours’ notice): Last working day. California (no notice): Within 72 hours of resignation. All other states: Next regular payday.
Seasonal Employees
Macy’s hires heavily for Q4 (holiday season). If your seasonal assignment ended and you weren’t converted to a regular position, this counts as an involuntary separation. The termination timeline applies, not the voluntary quit timeline. Many seasonal workers don’t realize this and wait too long to follow up.
Pre-Departure Checklist
Before your last day at Macy’s, take care of these:
- Log into My Insite (hr.macys.net/insite/) and save your most recent pay stubs
- Verify your direct deposit is active and the bank details are correct
- Note your PTO balance (accrued and used)
- Confirm your mailing address in the system for paper checks and W-2s
- Use your Macy’s employee discount (20% most items, 10% electronics/furniture) before it expires. Remember: you must pay with a Macy’s credit or prepaid card
- If you have a Payactiv balance (50% earned wages early access), note what’s already been drawn
Finding Your Final Pay Stub
Current employees and recent separations: Go to My Insite (hr.macys.net/insite/) or through Employee Connection (employeeconnection.net). Select Resources > W2 Online for tax documents, or look under pay statements for your final stub.
If you can’t log in, try the Password Manager at pwr.macys.net. You’ll need your Employee ID and the last 4 digits of your SSN.
Former employees: Use TheWorkNumber.com for W-2 access. This is the same service Macy’s uses for employment verification.
If neither portal works, call 1-877-493-9207 (Macy’s Credit Customer Service) or your store’s HR office directly.
Does Macy’s Pay Out Unused PTO?
Macy’s offers flexible time-off, and the payout rules follow your state. In states requiring vacation payout (California, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, and others), Macy’s includes accrued unused PTO in your final check.
In states without mandatory payout, Macy’s generally follows internal policy. Given the store closures and restructuring, verify your specific payout by checking your final stub carefully.
More on Macy’s time-off structure at the Macy’s PTO policies page.
Payactiv and Your Final Check
If you were enrolled in Payactiv (Macy’s earned wage access program that lets you draw up to 50% of earned wages before payday), any amounts already advanced won’t appear on your final check. Your final stub will reflect the remaining balance after Payactiv withdrawals and standard deductions.
Double-check the math. If Payactiv shows you drew $200 but your final check seems $300 short, something else is going on. Contact both Payactiv and Macy’s HR.
Post-Departure Checklist
After your last day:
- Check your bank account on the next scheduled payday
- Compare your final stub to previous ones (look for unexpected deductions)
- Verify PTO payout amount matches your expected balance
- If no payment by deadline, call Macy’s HR or your store’s office
- If still unresolved after 3-5 business days past deadline, file a wage claim with your state labor department
- Watch your mail for COBRA paperwork (arrives within 14 days of separation)
Store Closures: Special Considerations
If your store is one of the 150 closures, a few extra things to know:
Macy’s typically gives affected employees some advance notice before a closure, but the timeline varies. You may be offered a transfer to another location. Declining a transfer could affect how your separation is classified, which in turn affects both your final paycheck timeline and your unemployment eligibility.
Ask your store manager or district HR exactly how the separation will be coded. “Store closure” and “declined transfer” are different categories, and the difference can matter for your unemployment claim.
Illegal Deductions
Macy’s cannot deduct for missing merchandise, register shortages, or damaged goods without your written, standalone authorization. The requirement to use a Macy’s charge card for your employee discount is a purchasing rule, not a deduction from pay. These are separate issues.
Any new line item on your final stub that didn’t appear on previous checks should be questioned through HR.
For post-separation benefits, COBRA, and 401(k) options, see the Macy’s benefits after termination guide. All Macy’s resources are at the Macy’s employee hub.
